About the Art

WingTsun

WingTsun, pronounced "wing chun" is a Chinese system of self defense designed to defeat a stronger opponent with true skill rather then brute force or strength.  By harnessing the power of relaxation, WingTsun students learn to deflect rather than block--borrowing and recycling the opponent’s strength and using it to source his or her defense.

WingTsun merges defense and attack into one fluid motion to increase speed and eliminates unnecessary motions making it the most effective tool in realistic self defense situations.  It is a complete system focused on training the underlying physiology and reflexes that make them work.

Training can be intense and challenging but with regular practice one can defend themselves and become physically fit.

Professor Leung Ting is founder of the WingTsun system and world-wide grandmaster of the International WingTsun Association (IWTA).

Leung Ting started training WingTsun at the young age of 13. By the age of 20, he was accepted by Great Grandmaster Yip Man (Bruce Lee's teacher) as his "Closed Door (private) Student".

He has devoted his life to developing the WT Kung Fu system and made it available to a global family with branches in over 63 countries.  The IWTA is regarded as the largest professional Kung Fu organization in the world today.

Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Jiu-Jitsu means “Gentle Art,” known to have originated by monks in India who could not use any type of weapons for defense.  It made its way through China and took root in Japan and became the first Martial Arts style adopted by the Samurai Clans.  With the passage of time, techniques were split and developed into other styles such as judo, aikido, and karate to name a few.

In the early 1900’s a Japanese Jiu-Jitsu champion migrated to Brazil and eventually introduced the art to the Gracie Family.  They were instrumental in the fine tuning of the art so that it can be used effectively even for the small framed, light weight person.

Today’s Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is continuously evolving as a result of input from practitioners throughout the world.
